The right combination of AHA, BHA and vitamin C - how to do it

Combining Skincare Actives: AHA, BHA & Vitamin C

Time for a Skincare Upgrade!

Your skincare routine is about to level up! Adding new actives to your regimen can do wonders for your skin—provided you know how to combine them effectively. Here's everything you need to know about AHA, BHA, and Vitamin C.

AHA – Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) work on the surface of the skin, helping to remove dead skin cells and boost skin radiance. They also promote skin regeneration.

Best for: Dry skin, blemished skin, mature skin, rosacea, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation.

Examples:

  • • Glycolic Acid
  • • Lactic Acid
  • • Malic Acid
  • • Citric Acid
  • • Tartaric Acid

BHA – Beta Hydroxy Acid

Salicylic Acid is a BHA that penetrates deeper into the skin compared to AHA. It has anti-inflammatory properties and is excellent for oily and acne-prone skin. It unclogs pores, reduces blemishes, and even stimulates collagen production.

Best for: Oily skin, acne.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a trusted active in skincare, known for its glow-boosting effects. It stimulates collagen production, firms the skin, and reduces pigmentation. It also stabilizes the skin barrier and fights inflammation, making it ideal for mature, dull, or blemished skin.

Best for: Mature skin, blemished skin, dull skin.

Combining AHA, BHA, and Vitamin C

Want to integrate all three into your skincare routine? Here’s how to combine these powerful actives safely for optimal results.

Option 1: Time-Specific Method

Use Vitamin C in the morning, as it is an excellent antioxidant that protects against environmental damage. Apply AHA/BHA in the evening when your skin’s regeneration processes are at their peak, and sun exposure can be avoided.

Option 2: Alternate Days

If applying them at different times of the day isn’t your style, alternate their use! For example, use AHA/BHA on Day 1, Vitamin C on Day 2, and so on. This is particularly recommended for sensitive skin or if you’re new to acids.
