Proper Care for Dry Skin: Tips and Recommendations
Different skin types require different care. Learn what to consider when taking care of dry skin.
Possible Causes of Dry Skin:
- The weather: Hot or dry air and sunbathing
- Too hot or prolonged baths: Lipids and moisture are stripped from the skin
- Using the wrong skincare products, over-washing, or excessive exfoliation
- Genetically dry skin
- Dehydration
- Diuretic medications
- Psychological stress
What Can You Do for Dry Skin?
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
Cleaning: Use mild surfactants like Capryl Glucoside or Coco Glucoside, which cleanse gently without damaging the skin.
Tonic: A good tonic provides deep cleaning, balances moisture, and closes pores. Choose alcohol-free tonics to avoid further drying out your skin.
Moisturizing: Go for intensive care with rich creams or oils. Products with almond oil, shea butter, lactic acid, or aloe vera are especially suitable. Avoid gels as they might not provide enough hydration.
Exfoliation: Limit exfoliation for dry skin. When you do exfoliate, opt for chemical peels rather than physical scrubs, as they avoid abrasive friction on the skin.
Masks: Choose sheet masks or cream masks over peel-off masks for very dry skin. Cream masks that can be massaged in after use work best as an intensive treatment.
