A Visit to the Ulm Christmas Market
The Christmas market in Ulm officially opened on November 25th, 2019, and it was time for us to pay it a visit. The Ulm Christmas Market is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. With around 130 stalls spread out across the spacious Münsterplatz, it attracts visitors from near and far every year. If you’d like to visit, the opening hours are from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM.
As you approach Münsterplatz, an aromatic blend of spices and mulled wine fills the air, building excitement and anticipation.
What Makes the Ulm Christmas Market Special?
We Ulm locals love our Christmas market. Its size feels just right, and alongside the usual stalls, it offers unique attractions that we’d like to share with you.
One highlight for both young and old is the Fairy Tale Forest, an enchanting area adjacent to the market. Its magical atmosphere makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into another world. Fairy tale figures and scenes are beautifully crafted, and you can even ride a small train through the forest or view the scenery from a raised platform.
Another charming spot is the “Jurte”, a cozy yurt in the middle of the market where you can listen to storytelling by a warm wooden fire. It’s a perfect place to relax and unwind. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get in this time, but it’s a unique experience worth visiting in the entire region!
In the traditional Steiff Showcase Cabin, the Margarete-Steiff GmbH presents a moving winter landscape with the theme "Village & Castle." The display is wonderfully designed—don’t miss it!
Of course, no Christmas market is complete without a nativity scene. Ulm offers something special here—a nativity scene with live animals. Sheep, lambs, and donkeys bring the scene to life. While it might seem hectic for the animals, rest assured they are well cared for and can retreat when needed. Until then, visitors—like little children—enjoy their presence and can’t resist petting them.
